I’ve always been interested in the source of creativity and how it works.  “Sleeping” on a problem has frequently worked for me too.

The Ballad of Steven Slater

Posted by: Dave In: Current Affairs | Travel

This song was inspired by a recent event on a Jet Blue airline where a male flight attendant got fed up with the actions of a passenger and cursed out the passenger over the intercom system and then activated the inflatable emergency slide and exited the plane.

According to the New York Times article:

Mr. Slater got on the plane’s public address system and cursed out the passenger. Then he activated the inflatable evacuation slide at service exit R1; launched himself off the plane, an Embraer 190; ran to the employee parking lot; and left the airport in a car he had parked there.

I’m not sure if this guy is a hero, a wacko or a criminal, but it sure makes for an interesting news article.

Amish population boom

Posted by: Dave In: Current Affairs | History

According to a recent Wall Street Journal blog post:

The number of Amish in North America has doubled since 1991 and their distinctive communities can now be found in Canada as well as 28 U.S. states, including unlikely ones like Texas and Maine.

The full article has an interesting chart with Amish population by state.
