The Hurtt Prize

Posted by: Above The Aether In: Uncategorized

Houston Police Chief, Harold Hurtt, wants to blanket the city of Houston with surveillance video cameras.

The Seattle PI picked up the story with an interesting quote:

HOUSTON — Houston’s police chief on Wednesday proposed placing surveillance cameras in apartment complexes, downtown streets, shopping malls and even private homes to fight crime during a shortage of police officers.

“I know a lot of people are concerned about Big Brother, but my response to that is, if you are not doing anything wrong, why should you worry about it?” Chief Harold Hurtt told reporters Wednesday at a regular briefing.

Needless to say, some people are pissed about this. Matt Asher has started the Hurtt Prize, offering $1000 of his own money for any video footage or photos of the Chief Hurtt breaking the law in any way (jay walking, parking his car illegally, etc) to see how he likes being spied by the same people he plans to spy upon.

This, too, makes me smile.
