Google purchases Writely

Posted by: Above The Aether In: Current Affairs | Web

According to recent disclosure from Google, the big G has purchased Writely, a web-based word processor.

So now we already have web-based calendars, word processing and email. All we need is a spreadsheet application (like Microsoft Excel) and a presentation application (like Microsoft Powerpoint) and we officially have no reason to purchase Microsoft Office. All a business will need is a computer with a decent internet connection and a web browser.

Beyond total portability, the second best thing about web applications: they’re free.

As I mentioned earlier this week, it’s all headed to the web.

Now, if only I could figure out how to get paid for these predictions…
