We had a busy weekend so far…
Saturday:
1. I got a small fridge to put under my desk at work so I don’t have to use the 10th floor’s funky fridge anymore.
2. We got new silverware for home that looks pretty cool.
3. Justine got a crockpot and a curling iron/blow-dryer gizmo at Fry’s (I know nothing of workings these mysterious devices).
Sunday:
1. I picked up some albums on iTunes that I used to listen to in the 80s & 90s as well as a couple new albums (2 Police albums, 3 Iron Maiden albums, and 2 High Violets)
2. Planning on dropping off the fridge at work sometime today.
3. Badminton at Laura & Harold’s house. (Did you know the “birdie” in badminton is actually called a “shuttlecock?” Say it with me folks…SHUTTLECOCK. Yes, it sounds a little vulgar, but I assure you it’s very British and proper. According to Wikipedia, badminton is one of the fastest games in the world, with the “shuttle” speeds reaching over 200mph. The game became very popular in England, but has roots in China as well, as a game played with the feet instead of rackets. It became an Olympic sport* at the 1992 summer games in Barcelona, Spain.
* I find that any game you can play while drinking beer, smoking a cigar and/or doing the chicken dance is most definitely not a sport. A game, perhaps…a sport, not-so-much. The specific games that fall into this category for me are: badminton, volleyball, bowling, pool, bocce-ball, croquet, darts, ping-pong, etc. This strikes me as funny because several of these games are actually considered Olympic sports.
Hope you enjoyed your weekend.
