McCain: Roe v Wade should be overturned

Posted by: Dave In: Current Affairs |Political

Republican senator, John McCain, just announced that he feels Roe v. Wade should be overturned. You know, there was a brief period of time several years ago that I had a lot of respect for this man. Since then, he has been sprinting as fast as he can to the far right of the playground. I can’t figure out why? That respect I once had for McCain has since swirled down the bowl into the sewer that is American politics.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Republican presidential candidate John McCain (news, bio, voting record), looking to improve his standing with the party’s conservative voters, said Sunday the court decision that legalized abortion should be overturned.

“I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned,” the Arizona senator told about 800 people in South Carolina, one of the early voting states.

McCain also vowed that if elected, he would appoint judges who “strictly interpret the Constitution of the United States and do not legislate from the bench.”

The landmark 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade gave women the right to choose an abortion to terminate a pregnancy. The Supreme Court has narrowly upheld the decision, with the presence of an increasing number of more conservative justices on the court raising the possibility that abortion rights would be limited.

You can read the whole story here.

Happy Monday everyone!

Can he pander any faster? Here’s a man who has taken what was once integrity, and trashed it completely. First, he goes and speaks at Pat Robertson’s university. Most egregiously, he caves on the torture issue. That’s right, he wants this so bad, he sells out our troops despite his own history. And now this. This isn’t an occasional gaffe or misstep, it’s the most astounding and complete sellout of principals in hopes of gaining power I’ve seen in politics. Crikey, I’d vote for just about anyone ahead of him, given that he apparently has no ideals after all…

McCain’s very fast off the blocks. I’d say he can go from zero to political-whore in under 4 seconds. That’s admirable in politics.

Don’t you think?
