Dharma, it’s a floor wax and a dessert topping

Here’s an interesting post from my pal Scott about his Buddhist leanings.
I wouldn’t consider myself a full-fledged Buddhist at this point, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that it could happen. My wife has said that’s fine with her as long as I don’t give up my job, sell our possessions, and start wearing saffron robes all of the time.

I find it interesting when people working in a corporate environment decide to embrace a way of thinking that goes against the grain of the typical corporate atmosphere. This can either create a wonderful understanding of those around you, giving you the opportunity and skills to step back and see the big picture.
Or it can create friction from the people around you who believe that you should be just as frantic as they are.
I’ve worked with people who have run through rows of cubicles while waving a fistful of papers and looking as if the world might end at any moment. (That happens on a weekly basis at a newspaper, by the way.)
I find it fascinating to watch how different people deal with stressful situations.
I usually try to step back from the situation and take a 10,000ft glance at what is really going on.
You see, at this height, it’s very easy to throw something heavy like a stapler at the idiot responsible for the chaos.
(I’m joking…sort of.)
Do you have any secrets for dealing with chaos in the workplace?
