Einstein, maraschino cherries and apples

Posted by: Dave In: Apple |Books |Food & Drink |Science

Einstein with a cherryWalter Isaacson’s new Einstein biography is pretty good so far. It’s a gigantic 700 page tome that I have just started to read last weekend. I’m hoping the physics (when I get to that section) will be easily digestible for someone like myself who doesn’t have a professional background in the hard sciences.

I’m not sure how this is connected, but I have discovered the joys of maraschino cherries recently. I bought a large jar of the cherries and used a few of them in a bowl of fruit salad last week. Since the jar was so large I had a lot of cherries left over and have been putting extra cherries and cherry juice in my diet 7-Up for the last several days.

This, my friends, is amazingly good. You should try it.

P.S. – In completely unrelated news, according to Apple’s website, my new laptop has been configured at the factory and left Shanghai, China yesterday. It’s slated for delivery on Monday. I am more excited than you could possibly imagine. I haven’t worked on a Mac in at least 5 years. I’m excited to make the switch and begin exploring all the creative stuff that Macs are so adept at doing.

My dear David, those drinks using the cherries and maraschino cherry juice were always known as Roy Rogers (for little boys) and Shirley Temples (for little girls). You could use either 7-Up or ginger ale. Tasty little beverages, aren’t they?….and reliving your youth as well!

I remember drinking Roy Rogers as a kid and feeling very sophisticated.

I think I feel less sophisticated as an adult, but just as satisfied.

Now, if only I could find those candy cigarettes I could complete my childhood faux vices.

  • epiphenita: Like Tom Waits without the music.
  • epiphenita: Reminds me of my good friend's artwork: http://victoriacarlson.blogspot.com/2009/06/untitled.html
  • Dave: I think someone should make some dance music from those "WHOAHs."
  • epiphenita: Oh, Dave. That was tonic to my soul. Perfect. I vote for an exorcism.
  • Dave: Hmm, looks sober to me.
  • Scott: I'm thinking that the guy with the hat might have had a drink or two before this picture was taken. Just a hunch...
  • Scott: There's a roleplaying scenario just waiting to be written based on these pictures. :-)

Stepping over the steaming pile of reality. This is one man's journey into the absurd.
