The Turtleman

Posted by: Dave In: Film|Outdoors|Weird

Link to video. God bless you, Ernie Brown Jr. You have discovered something that most people never do – your purpose in life. It’s great to see people doing what they love in a non-ironic way. Although, I’d love to hear that story about the chainsaw accident. – Dave

Into the Wild

Posted by: Dave In: Books|Film|Outdoors

I just saw the film adaptation of John Krakauer’s book,Into the Wild and enjoyed it. As with many film adaptations, it does not follow the story verbatim, but it does a good job of capturing the spirit of the book. The story follows Christopher McCandless on his journey into the wilderness of Alaska. — MOVIE […]

It’s lizard season in Houston

Posted by: Dave In: Outdoors|Texas

This little lizard was climbing on a locked box of doggie poop bags posted throughout out apartment complex. I’ve been seeing a lot of lizards crawling around Houston lately. Is this a sign of the end times or just autumn in Houston? -Dave —————- Now playing: John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman – Autumn Serenade via […]

Posted by: Dave In: Books|Outdoors|Philosophy

I started reading The Last American Man, by Elizabeth Gilbert, last week. It’s been a while since I purposefully slowed down my reading and forced myself to savor a book because I liked it so much. The book follows Eustace Conway, a man who walked into the woods as a young man and then walked […]

Toe sandals

I’m on the fence with these toe-sandals. They look sort of cool, but I’m not convinced they’d be all that comfortable. You can check them out here. -Dave

Arc’Teryx has recently redesigned their website and it looks absolutely amazing. I’ve been a fan of their products for several years (and only recently been able to afford them). Their backpacks are works of art. If you are a fan of industrial design, you should check them out. -Dave

From Treehugger: Jerry Falwell, God’s gift to swooning teenage girls everywhere, was actually quoted calling environmentally conscious Christians “niave.” Apparently there’s a liberal conspiracy involving this whole fake global warming thing… The whole story can be read here. (If you stare at my photoshop monstrosity above, eventually you will join Jerry in his crusade against […]

Giant bat-eating centipede

Posted by: Above The Aether In: Outdoors|Weird

Over a foot long and poisonous, this centipede catches and consumes a bat from the darkness of a cave. I hope you can all sleep tonight after watching this. I’m sure that wasn’t a bug that crawled across your covers. Naa. Couldn’t be. Just go back to sleep. -Dave

  • Dave: I think someone should make some dance music from those "WHOAHs."
  • epiphenita: Oh, Dave. That was tonic to my soul. Perfect. I vote for an exorcism.
  • Dave: Hmm, looks sober to me.
  • Scott: I'm thinking that the guy with the hat might have had a drink or two before this picture was taken. Just a hunch...
  • Scott: There's a roleplaying scenario just waiting to be written based on these pictures. :-)

Stepping over the steaming pile of reality. This is one man's journey into the absurd.
