Houston Zen Center

Posted by: Dave In: Health| Philosophy

Justine and I started a 6 week introduction to Zen meditation course at the Houston Zen Center last week.
We spent the first half of the class learning a little about the history and practice of Zen.  After that, we practiced mediation - both seated and walking.
We performed the seated meditation while sitting on top of [...]

Very interesting short videos on ideas, consciousness, creativity, and the arts. Worth watching.
Happy Friday, everyone.

George Carlin died yesterday of heart failure.  He was 71 years old, but had the mouth of a 18 year old sailor.
Famous for his 7 words you can’t say on TV.  Well, since I’m paying for bandwidth and hosting here, I can say anything I want.  So, this is for you George:

Creationist museum

Posted by: Dave In: Philosophy| Science| Weird

Striving to devolve our population one field trip at a time, the Creationist Museum, located in Petersberg, Kentucky presents “the facts” in a very quotable way.  Here’s a quote from their “About Us” page.
We’ll begin the Museum experience by showing that “facts” don’t speak for themselves (click here for a proposed drawing of this exhibit). [...]

Become a little more zen

Posted by: Dave In: Philosophy| Productivity

Here is an interesting blog post from Zen Habits. Not sure I agree with everything on the list, but a lot of them make sense. I happen to clash with large gaping sections, especially “lose weight” and “rise early.”  Wasn’t Buddha fat…er jolly?
