We’ve headed south for the weekend to Taos, NM.  Having fun walking around the old pueblo.  Google maps said it would take us 5 and a half hours to get here.

Having a great time at the HP Lovecraft Film Festival here in cloudy Portland, OR. This year’s short films were pretty good overall.

Some stand out films this year were “Noirville”, “Tinglewood”, “Seance” and “Dirt Dauber.”

I’m looking forward to a showing of “The Mist” later tonight, which is a faithful adaptation of Stephen King’s story of the same name.

I’ve always wanted a motorcycle.

So, about two weeks after my knee surgery I visited the Harley Davidson dealership and picked out a red 2010 Road King.  I’ve been riding it for the past 3 weeks and love it. It’s pretty heavy (nearly 800lbs with a full tank of gas) but it handles extremely well on the twisty turns in the mountains.

This photo was taken about 20 miles west of Boulder, CO on a ride I did with Jake.

So far, it’s been loads of fun.

That’s right, we’ve officially moved to Denver, Colorado – the land of microbrews and mountains.  Against all advice to “hunker down and stay put in this economy” we thought following our bliss couldn’t possibly be a bad thing.

So stay tuned for a couple additional posts on outdoorsy stuff mixed in with all the monkeys and fart jokes.

P.S. – OMG, SWINE FLU…RUN!

It’s that time of year again, folks!  Justine and I mysteriously woke up in Portland, Oregon yesterday standing in front of the Hollywood Theater.  It’s rainy.  It’s cold.  It’s dark.

In other words…it’s perfect.

We watchd the introduction by Robert Price and Brian Lumely.  I also met Mike Mignola and chatted about Hellboy a little bit.  We’re looking forward to seing the Darkest of the Hillside Thickets tonight at Tony Starlights Supper Club.  The Thickets plays rock-n-roll enspired by the tales of H.P. Lovecraft.  In costume.

So far we’ve seen two seperate blocks of short films that were very good.  Some stand shorts were:

Eel Girl – An amatuer film from New Zealand about a female fish creature captured by scientists.  Creepy, thoughtful and funny all at the same time.

AM:1200 – A film about a man struggling with greed who finds himself in a very unusual radio station.

The Casting Call of Cthulhu – A funny short film about making a short film about Cthulhu.  Good stuff.

UPDATE – Saturday, Sept 12th - We’re all fine here, just without power and water.  It’s like camping, except not nearly as much fun.

We are staying in Houston to ride out Hurricane Ike.  We have plenty of food, water, batteries, etc to keep us going.  I’ll try to take some photos or video of the events and post them at some point.

The latest models have Ike at a Category 3 hurricane at landfall hitting near the coast of Galveston, TX (just down the road).  Hopefully everyone has evacuated Galveston because the storm surge will most certainly flood portions of the island.

We will probably lose power at some point here in Houston, so my updates to this blog may be sporadic over the next few days.  Not that they’ve been regular up to this point, really.

P.S. – Oh, enjoy a little Scorpions & The Berlin Philharmonic playing “Rock you like a hurricane.”  Yeah, I’m probably not taking this as seriously as I should.

Tropical storm Edouard is supposed to hit us in Houston tonight around midnight.

Our storm supplies consist of olives, vermouth and vodka.  It worked for Rita, why not Edouard?

I’ll try to post some photos or video of the tropical storm experience here later tonight.

UPDATE: Monday, July 04 – 7:55PM (CST) – Edouard is now slated to make landfall in Galveston around 1PM tomorrow.

No, this is not a pill or a new type of underwear, it is a website that tracks the price of gas by county across the United States.  Green is good.  Red is bad.
