UPDATE – Saturday, Sept 12th - We’re all fine here, just without power and water.  It’s like camping, except not nearly as much fun.

We are staying in Houston to ride out Hurricane Ike.  We have plenty of food, water, batteries, etc to keep us going.  I’ll try to take some photos or video of the events and post them at some point.

The latest models have Ike at a Category 3 hurricane at landfall hitting near the coast of Galveston, TX (just down the road).  Hopefully everyone has evacuated Galveston because the storm surge will most certainly flood portions of the island.

We will probably lose power at some point here in Houston, so my updates to this blog may be sporadic over the next few days.  Not that they’ve been regular up to this point, really.

P.S. – Oh, enjoy a little Scorpions & The Berlin Philharmonic playing “Rock you like a hurricane.”  Yeah, I’m probably not taking this as seriously as I should.

Tropical storm Edouard is supposed to hit us in Houston tonight around midnight.

Our storm supplies consist of olives, vermouth and vodka.  It worked for Rita, why not Edouard?

I’ll try to post some photos or video of the tropical storm experience here later tonight.

UPDATE: Monday, July 04 – 7:55PM (CST) – Edouard is now slated to make landfall in Galveston around 1PM tomorrow.

Houston Calling, a great local music blog, has made my day.

If you’re in the area, stop by and show them some love for re-opening their doors. It’s not easy being an independent music seller these days with the popularity of music downloads, BitTorrent, etc. I hope the local community shows them some love.

The punchline is – the projected turn-out at the polls is around 10%.

I’d say the news organizations can cut back on election coverage a bit.  Better yet, I say they start making shit up just for fun – until the public gives a damn.

This little lizard was climbing on a locked box of doggie poop bags posted throughout out apartment complex. I’ve been seeing a lot of lizards crawling around Houston lately. Is this a sign of the end times or just autumn in Houston?

The sky is turning that weird swirling khaki brown tonight to signal a whopper of a storm is coming.

Josh and Tara will be in town tomorrow night, making that long trek from New York that they tried to make a few months ago. Let’s hope mother nature is a bit nicer to them this time around.

Update for a douche-bag – The Sky in Houston I was referring to above.

The sky looks like that last scene in Ghostbusters with the swirling omnious clouds around that tall building while Rick Moranis staggers around asking about the Keymaster and the Gatekeeper.  We had tornado and flood warnings yesterday to put icing on the cake.

I miss blizzards.  I think I would be the only person in Houston NOT freaked out if we got 4 feet of snow.  Hell, it would give me the opportunity to take my snowshoes for a spin.

There are some amazing monuments throughout the facility and some famous people are buried there, most notibly, Howard Hughes (the first photo below is his grave/monument).

I thought it was a peaceful place, but I think Justine was a little weirded out by all the graves. Regardless, it was nice to have some peace and quiet in the middle of the city. Enjoy the photos…
