The Call of Cthulhu as interpreted by Wordle

Posted by: Dave In: Design| HPL| Web

I  was recently shown a really cool site called Wordle that takes any text and converts it into a word cloud, giving more frequently used words more prominence on the page.
This is where writing and art collide.  It’s both beautiful and interesting at the same time.

Gas Buddy

Posted by: Dave In: Business| Places| Travel| Web

No, this is not a pill or a new type of underwear, it is a website that tracks the price of gas by county across the United States.  Green is good.  Red is bad.
Check out Gas Buddy here.

I’m back and ready to rock!

Posted by: Dave In: Photography| Web

I’m back after a brief hiatus in Austin at the awesome South by Southwest Interactive conference.  I recommend the experience to everyone.
My gift to you, upon my most righteous return to Houston, is the fantastic photo above of what my imaginary son would act like.

What should I read next?

Posted by: Dave In: Books| Web

Enter the title and author into this search and the online book database will compare what other readers (who have read your book) have also enjoyed. Give it a whirl. It’s pretty neat.

The good: Google introduced IMAP protocol for Gmail, allowing multiple platforms (web, phone, desktop application) to synch gmail seemlessly.  For example, if I delete an email from my desktop Mac Mail application, it will be deleted across all the access points I use to manage email.  Or so the theory goes.
The bad: It’s a fucking [...]

Creepiest clock I’ve ever seen

Posted by: Dave In: Health| Web| Weird

Not sure how accurate this clock is, but it is filled with very disturbing information.  I think the injuries counter should move much faster…especially in movies and sitcoms.  I mean, “falls” should be flying right?

Google increases Gmail storage

Posted by: Dave In: Blog| Communication| Web

Gmail is getting a storage boost in the coming days, according to a recent post on the Gmail blog.  The storage counter will be sped up to increase in size a little more speedy than before.
It’s like free money…only not quite as good.

How to legally find music online

Posted by: Dave In: Music| Web

I found a great blog post detailing numerous legal ways to listen to and download music online. From Digital Alchemy via LifeHack:
Free online music used to be like the Wild West of the Internet with services like Napster dominating the field during the bubble. Now, as the Internet has matured, new models for distributing [...]
