The Ballad of Steven Slater

This song was inspired by a recent event on a Jet Blue airline where a male flight attendant got fed up with the actions of a passenger and cursed out the passenger over the intercom system and then activated the inflatable emergency slide and exited the plane.

According to the New York Times article:

Mr. Slater got on the plane’s public address system and cursed out the passenger. Then he activated the inflatable evacuation slide at service exit R1; launched himself off the plane, an Embraer 190; ran to the employee parking lot; and left the airport in a car he had parked there.

I’m not sure if this guy is a hero, a wacko or a criminal, but it sure makes for an interesting news article.

We’ve headed south for the weekend to Taos, NM. Having fun walking around the old pueblo. Google maps said it would take us 5 and a half hours to get here.

A new two-wheeler

I’ve always wanted a motorcycle.

So, about two weeks after my knee surgery I visited the Harley Davidson dealership and picked out a red 2010 Road King. I’ve been riding it for the past 3 weeks and love it. It’s pretty heavy (nearly 800lbs with a full tank of gas) but it handles extremely well on the twisty turns in the mountains.

This photo was taken about 20 miles west of Boulder, CO on a ride I did with Jake.

So far, it’s been loads of fun.

We’re in Austin

We arrived in Austin in record time (around 2 hours and 15 minutes). Would have been faster but we hit traffic leaving Houston.

Headed out to find some dinner. Looking forward to the Maker Faire tomorrow. I’ll try to post some photos here tomorrow and Sunday.

This story made me laugh today at work. I can almost hear the long, loud scream that must have come from this young man.

PAW PAW, Mich. – Ben Carpenter got the ride of a lifetime when his electric wheelchair became lodged in the grille of a semitrailer and was accidentally pushed down a highway for several miles at about 50 mph.
