Prisoners of Gravity: Watchmen

This is an interesting 20 year old British interview with Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons (the creators of the Watchmen).

This episode of Prisoners of Gravity was broadcast in 1991 and it is a half hour documentary about Alan Moore and David Gibbons’ genre twisting series Watchmen. Contained within this video is the presenter, Command Rick, asking both David Gibbons and Alan Moore a series of questions about the structures they imposed on the series and the various thematic layers within the twelve issues.

I’ve always been a fan of the original Prisoner staring Patrick McGoohan. The original show ran for only 17 episodes and managed to create a huge cult following among science fiction and mystery fans.

According to Wikipedia:

The series follows a British former secret agent who is held prisoner in a mysterious seaside village where his captors try to find out why he abruptly resigned from his job.

AMC is remaking the Prisoner into a 6-hour miniseries, staring James Caviezel as Number 6. Ian McKellen will be playing the roll of Number 2.

I hope the capture the weird psychological twists of the original series.

According to Wikipedia, today is the birthday of Dr. Who. I remember growing up watching Dr Who on the local PBS station thinking the effects were horrible back then, but the stories were always enthralling.

George Carlin died yesterday of heart failure. He was 71 years old, but had the mouth of a 18 year old sailor.

Famous for his 7 words you can’t say on TV. Well, since I’m paying for bandwidth and hosting here, I can say anything I want. So, this is for you George:

Shit, Piss, Fuck, Cunt, Cocksucker, Motherfucker, Tits.

There you have it.

Those seven words took Carlin to the Supreme Court in 1978. According to Wikipedia, he lost in a 5-4 decision which allowed the government to censor him on the airwaves.

I hope he’s turning St Peter’s ears blue at the pearly gates right now.
